VF is the Kāpiti Digital Agency. That is our registered trading name, not a marketing line - we are based in Raumati Beach and most of our local clients are within twenty minutes of the office.

Proof

Work we have done here

Three kinds of job, all done here on the coast.

An electrical contractor in Paraparaumu - website, SEO and Meta advertising running together as one arrangement rather than three separate invoices.

A kitchen manufacturer with forty years in the trade - website design and development, with a photography package shot in the kitchens themselves. The site had to carry the weight of the reputation.

A landscaping firm at Paraparaumu Beach - website design built around before-and-after work, because in that trade the finished job is the whole argument.

We also give a community theatre company their website, email and SEO for nothing, for every production they run.

Local, but not only local

Being the Kāpiti agency does not mean we only work here. Our clients include an internet provider in the Manawatū, a home builder in Whanganui, an architectural builder and a commercial cleaner in Christchurch, and a tourism operator in the Wairarapa.

The coast is where we are. It is not the limit of where we work.

What we see across Kāpiti

The same three gaps, on almost every site we are asked to look at.

A Google Business Profile that is half filled in. It is free, it sits above the organic results on a phone, and most businesses have never touched it past the address.

One page trying to rank for eight services. It ranks for none of them. Each thing you sell needs somewhere of its own to live.

No idea which channel is producing the work. If you cannot say whether the enquiries came from search, ads or word of mouth, you cannot decide what to spend next month.

What the coast is actually like to rank in

It varies more than the size suggests. Paraparaumu is the tightest market and the northern towns are noticeably easier, so the same trade can take three months in one and three weeks in the other.

The pattern that holds everywhere is that the crowded trades - electricians, builders, landscapers, plumbers - are genuinely contested, and the specialist ones are wide open. If you do something with two or three competitors inside half an hour, a properly built page will usually get there far faster and far cheaper than you expect.

Where to start, in order

Google Business Profile first, because it is free, it sits above everything else on a phone, and most businesses have never finished filling it in.

Then the website: fast, clear about what you do in the first sentence, and with a page for each thing you sell rather than one page listing all of them.

Then reviews, because when two businesses are equally close the one with forty reviews wins.

Ads after that, not before. Paying to send people to a page that does not convert is the most expensive mistake on this list.

Questions from Kāpiti businesses

Should I target “Kāpiti” or my own town?

Both, on separate pages. People search both ways depending on how far they are willing to travel, and they are genuinely different results. One page trying to cover Paraparaumu, Waikanae and Ōtaki at once tends to rank for none of them.

Does the macron matter? Kāpiti or Kapiti?

People search both and Google understands they are the same place, so you do not need two versions of a page. Using the macron correctly on the page is the right thing to do regardless.

How competitive is the Kāpiti Coast for local search?

Less than Wellington and more than most people expect. Paraparaumu is the tightest, the northern towns are easier, and the trades with the most businesses - electricians, builders, landscapers - are harder than the specialist ones. It is very winnable with a proper page for each service.

Do you only work with Kāpiti businesses?

No. We are based in Raumati Beach and plenty of our clients are local, but we work across New Zealand and overseas. This is where we are, not the limit of who we work with.

We are on the coast.

Half an hour, free, no obligation. If two of the eight services would move the needle and the other six would not, we will say so.
