Areas we serve
Digital Marketing in Waikanae
For businesses at the quieter end of the coast.
Waikanae runs differently to Paraparaumu. Older population, more retirees, more one-person trades and professional services, and far less foot traffic. What works eight minutes down the road does not automatically work here.
Proof
Work we have done here
Landscaping and hard landscaping, working through Waikanae as well as Paraparaumu. The site was structured so each service and each area has somewhere of its own to rank rather than sharing one page - which is what lets a Paraparaumu-based trade appear for Waikanae searches without pretending to be based here.
We also work with businesses serving this end of the coast through Kāpiti-wide campaigns. The map pack does not stop at the river, and neither should the targeting.
What is different about Waikanae
Two things change the approach.
The audience skews older. That is not a reason to write differently - condescending copy reads as condescending at any age. It is a reason to take page speed and text size seriously, and to make the phone number easy to find rather than hiding it behind a form.
Search volume is lower than Paraparaumu. Fewer people searching means each search is worth more, and it means broad campaigns waste money. A tight Google Ads radius around Waikanae will usually beat a Kāpiti-wide one on cost per lead, even though it looks smaller on paper.
Small market, better odds
The instinct is that a smaller town means SEO is not worth doing. It is usually the reverse.
Ranking is relative. In Wellington you are competing against dozens of businesses with budgets and agencies behind them. In Waikanae you are often competing against three, two of which have a website nobody has touched since 2019. The work needed to hold position one is a fraction of what the same result costs forty minutes south, and the enquiries are worth the same when the phone rings.
What it does mean is that the ceiling is real. There are only so many people searching for a plumber in Waikanae in a given month, and no amount of optimisation invents more of them. That is the point at which a second page for the wider coast starts earning its keep - not before.
Trades, professionals and the one-person business
A lot of Waikanae businesses are one person with a van or a home office, and the honest answer for them is not a big build. It is a fast site that says what you do, a Google Business Profile filled in properly, and enough reviews to look like the safe choice.
That is a small piece of work and it will outperform a site three times the price that nobody can find. If that is where you are, we would rather tell you so than sell you the bigger thing.
Waikanae Beach and the village
Locals treat them as different places and search accordingly. If your customers are beach-side, a page written around the village will underperform, and the reverse is equally true.
It is worth ten minutes checking which one your enquiries actually come from before deciding what the page should say. Most people have never looked.

Questions from Waikanae businesses
Is Waikanae too small for SEO to be worth it?
The opposite, usually. Fewer businesses chasing the same searches means less competition, so a well-built page can hold position one for a trade term far more cheaply than it could in Wellington. Small market, small cost, same phone ringing.
Should I target Waikanae or the whole Kāpiti Coast?
Start with Waikanae, because you will rank for it faster and the enquiries are closer to home. Add Kāpiti Coast as a second page once the first is holding. Trying to do both at once with one page usually achieves neither.
Does Waikanae Beach count as a separate search?
Sometimes, and it is worth checking rather than assuming. Locals distinguish between the village and the beach, and if your customers are one rather than the other that changes what the page should say.
