Wellington is a different problem to the rest of this list. There is no shortage of agencies here, the competition for every search is real, and nobody is going to hire you because you are nearby.

We work with Wellington businesses anyway, and we are straight about why that works: you are not paying for a Wellington office, and the person you talk to is the person doing the work.

Proof

Work we have done here

Kitchen design and manufacture, installing across the Kāpiti Coast and greater Wellington. Website, development and a full photography package with models, shot in the kitchens themselves rather than licensed from a stock library.

A community theatre company drawing its audience from across the Wellington region. Website, email and SEO, free, for every production.

We also support Special Children's Christmas Parties so vulnerable children throughout the region get a day of their own.

What you are actually buying

A Wellington agency will tell you they understand the market. So will we, and neither claim is worth much - a competent agency anywhere can research a market in a week.

The honest differences are these.

Overheads. We do not have a Cuba Street office to fund, and that shows up in what the work costs.

Who does it. One point of contact, and it is the person doing the work. Nothing is outsourced offshore and nothing goes through an account manager.

Thirty days. No long contracts. If we are not earning the fee you should be free to go, and we should be the ones telling you first.

If proximity genuinely matters for what you need - daily on-site work, a large in-house team to integrate with - hire someone in the city. We will tell you that on the call rather than after the invoice.

Wellington is a suburb game

The mistake most businesses here make is chasing "Wellington" when their customers are searching a suburb. Te Aro, Newtown, Karori, Johnsonville, Lower Hutt and Petone all return different results, and each is a fraction of the competition of the city term.

A page for the two or three suburbs you actually serve will produce enquiries months before a page aimed at the whole city does. The city term is worth going after eventually, but it should be the third thing you build rather than the first.

The terrain matters more here than anywhere

Wellington is the one market on this list where physical geography changes search behaviour. The hills and the harbour mean people genuinely will not cross the city for a trade they can get locally, so "near me" carries more weight than it does on the flat coast north of here.

That makes the Google Business Profile disproportionately important, and it makes service-area settings worth getting exactly right rather than casting wide. A plumber in Miramar bidding on Karori terms is paying for people who will never call.

Questions from Wellington businesses

Why use a Kāpiti agency rather than a Wellington one?

Lower overheads and the same work. We are forty minutes up the line, which in practice means the occasional trip in rather than a different way of working. If you want an agency you can walk to, that is a fair reason to choose one in the city.

Is Wellington much harder to rank in than Kāpiti?

Considerably. More businesses, more agencies actively working on the same terms, and searchers who split by suburb. It takes more content and longer, and anyone quoting you Kāpiti timelines for Wellington terms has not looked at the results.

Should I target Wellington or my suburb?

Usually the suburb first, because it is winnable and the enquiries are closer. Te Aro, Kilbirnie, Johnsonville and Lower Hutt are all separate searches with separate results. Wellington as a whole is the harder, slower page.

Do you work with businesses outside Wellington?

Yes, across New Zealand and overseas. Location matters for local search rankings, not for who can do the work.

Forty minutes, and we come to you.

Half an hour, free, and no obligation at the end of it. If a Wellington agency is the better fit we will say so.
